Initial Environmental Review

Often the first step in developing or overhauling an EMS is to perform an Initial Environmental Review (IER). This consists of an

• EMS audit
• regulatory compliance audit,
• a preliminary identification of significant environmental aspects, and interviews with key personnel.

This allows us to identify important issues, develop an appropriate approach, and scope the EMS development effort. The IER result is a gap report for your EMS, a recommended approach, and an estimate of the resources needed to develop an EMS and/or achieve registration to ISO 14001. Along with an understanding of the benefits an EMS would bring, this information is what management needs to decide the role environmental performance, an integrated EMS, or ISO 14001 registration should play in their business.

Management Coaching and Consulting

We work with management from the board room to the tank farm to help them:

• understand the good business reasons to improve and integrate their EMS;
• estimate the costs and benefits of an EMS in their specific regulatory context, markets, and products;
• integrate environmental issues into mainstream business management systems;
• develop an EMS implementation approach that supports their business goals, organization structure, and corporate culture;
• understand their role in the EMS

EMS Implementation Planning

Following an Initial Environmental Review, an organization often decides that it makes good sense to develop or improve their existing EMS. IQA can help plan this project based on our experiences developing and implementing dozens of management systems. While the plan must be fundamentally owned and implemented by the organization, IQA can often provide input to create a more realistic plan that results in a better EMS, on-time, and on-budget.

Environmental Management Systems Assessment

Before you can follow a map you need to know where you are. We provide unbiased, independent assessments of your EMS. We can quickly identify gaps in an EMS that prevent improved performance and cause repeated non-compliances to environmental regulations.
